40 Days for Life

“You are called to stand up for life! To respect and defend the mystery of life always and everywhere, including the lives of unborn babies, giving real help and encouragement to mothers in difficult situations. You are called to work and pray against abortion.” Pope John Paul II

Last year, when it was still just four members, Team Orthodoxy participated in the 40 Days For Life prayer vigil to end abortion. It was the first time that the London Area Right to Life Association had registered to participate in 40 Days For Life, and we were ready to give our support, 100%, for the unborn, their mothers and for all those affected by abortion.

40 Days for Life has seen many hearts changed and many lives protected and blessed. Multiple abortion facilities have shut down after the campaign has ended each year and multiple workers have quit their jobs within the abortion industry. The list of amazing things that have happened as a result of this time of prayer and fasting continues to increase.

This year, from September 26 to November 4, there will be another 40 Days For Life campaign. You can visit the campaign website here, where you can see if 40 Days For Life is going on in your city or one close to you, and you can register for prayer hours with them. We are called to stand up for and protect life, from conception to natural death, and I really encourage you to take the time to register, even if it is just for one hour.

If you are in the London, Ontario area, you are welcome to join Team Orthodoxy when we go to the 40 Days Kick-Off Rally this Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at St. John the Divine (390 Baseline Rd W, London, Ontario). Mass is at 7:00pm for those who wish to attend and the rally runs from 7:45pm-9:30pm. There will be a time of worship, testimonies from people who have been affected by abortion, refreshments, and fellowship. If you’re not from the area, be sure to check the campaign website for kick-off rallies in your area.

After the close of the prayer vigil, the Wrap-Up Rally for London, Ontario will be on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 7:30pm at Hillside Church (250 Commissioners Rd. E , London, Ontario), where there will be fellowship, refreshments, guest appearances, and a highlight of events that happened during the 40 Days For Life prayer vigil.

Last year, Team Orthodoxy created a prayer guide for a two hour block of time with the vigil. You can visit this page to view the guide. Feel free to print off a copy to use during your hours.

We will be the generation who sees the end to abortion. It will end here. But not without a fight. This battle needs prayer. This battle needs YOU!

“I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is “Abortion”, because it is a war against the child… A direct killing of the innocent child, “Murder” by the mother herself… And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love… And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts…”

Mother Teresa

  1. Don’t forget to pray for the medical staff – the doctors and nurses – who perform the abortions that they may see that what they are doing is committing murder.
